In addition to the Shrimp & Broad Noodles recipe I’ve posted, this is another inspiration dish from Empire Chinese Kitchen. Their garlic green bean appetizer is to die for and since the restaurant is over an hour away from my house, it was time to try to replicate it. After a couple tries, I think this is pretty spot on. I could eat a whole batch of these myself, and still want more. Enjoy!
Serves: 2 Servings – Prepare Time: 15 minutes +/-
INGREDIENTS:
GARLIC GREEN BEANS:
- 3/4 Pound Fresh Green Beans, Trimmed
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1/2 Small White Onion, Thinly Sliced
- 1/2 Shallot, Thinly Sliced
- 3 Garlic Cloves, Minced
- 1/2 Lemon, Zested
- 2 Teaspoons Soy Sauce
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1/4 Teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- Sesame Seeds for Topping, Optional
DIRECTIONS:
1.) Add oil to pan on medium heat. Once oil is shimmering, add onions and shallots. Cook until onions have wilted, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes.
2.) Once trimmed, add green beans, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes to pan. Toss to incorporate ingredients. Cook for 10 minutes, covered, until beans are soft. Cook an additional couple minutes until beans begin to blister.
3.) With 1 minute remaining, add garlic, lemon zest, and soy sauce. Toss frequently to prevent garlic from burning. Remove from heat, sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired, and serve!
