How to Cook: Wild Turkey Legs

My “How to Cook” posts are intended to provide guidance on how to cook different types of wild game. When I first started experimenting with different types of meat, I couldn’t find a lot of advice and recipes on certain types of wild game. Through trial and error I’ve learned what works best when preparing these different cuts of meat. My goal is to help others help themselves when preparing wild game!

Makes:  2-3 Turkey Legs +/- –  Prepare Time: 30 minutes +/-

INGREDIENTS:

WILD TURKEY LEGS:

  • 2-3 Wild Turkey Legs, Depending on Size
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Chili Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Paprika
  • 4 Cups Chicken Broth
  • 1 Lime, Juiced
  • 1 Tablespoon White Vinegar
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt & Pepper (To Broth)

DIRECTIONS:

1.) Mix cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika together. Give legs a once over to remove any stray shot or feathers. Rub legs with seasonings.

2.) Add turkey legs to large crock pot. Top with chicken broth, lime juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, flipping halfway through. Depending on how large the legs are, they may need a little extra time to cook. Leg meat is done when the meat is easily pried away from the bone with a fork.

3.) Strip meat from bones and substitute for pulled chicken or pork into any recipe!
