Once again, inspiration strikes when I visit Connor’s parents. Jean recently bought Ketel One’s Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka and wanted to create a crafty cocktail with it. In the pantry, we found Wild Moon’s Lavender Liquor and began the process of concocting a unique and inspired beverage. This refreshing grapefruit martini tastes as if you plucked a grapefruit right off the tree and bit into it. To follow are surprisingly subtle notes of basil, lavender, and lemon to create a beautiful and crisp summer cocktail.
Serves: 1 to 2 Drinks – Prepare Time: 10 minutes +/-
INGREDIENTS:
GRAPEFRUIT BASIL MARTINI:
- 1 Ounce Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit & Rose Vodka
- 1 Lemon, Juiced
- 1 Ounce Basil Simple Syrup (method below)
- 1 Teaspoon Lavender Liquor, I used Wild Moon
- 1/2 Ounce Grapefruit Juice
- 2 Teaspoons Grenadine
- Ice
- 2 Wedges Grapefruit, For Garnish
- 1 Small Sprig Basil, For Garnish
DIRECTIONS:
1.) In a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, add vodka, lemon juice, lavender liquor, grapefruit juice, grenadine, and basil simple syrup. Shake for 30 seconds, until ice is melted and rounded.
2.) Pour into chilled martini glass and garnish with grapefruit wedges and basil sprig. Enjoy and sip responsibly!
BASIL SIMPLE SYRUP:
1.) In a large saucepan, add 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of white granulated sugar, and 5 basil leaves.
2.) On medium heat, stir mixture until sugar is fully dissolved. Turn down heat to low and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes, ripping apart the leaves as they wilt. Remove from heat, strain, and let cool.
